Are OnePlus and Realme Merging? Report Hints at New Sub-Product Centre

Speculations about OnePlus and Realme have once again brought about a lot of discussion within the smartphone industry. According to an article, it seems likely that the two companies will come together into one through what has been referred to as a ‘sub-product centre’. This development has come amidst some internal changes in OnePlus’s management as well as confusion in some of its major market locations worldwide. Although the company has denied any claims regarding the shutdowns being talked about, there seems to be more coming to light.

Merger Talk of the Town: What’s Being Said in the Reports?

The most talked-about topic at this moment is the reports stating the alleged merger of OnePlus and Realme. As reported in a Weibo post by Digital Chat Station, these two companies will reportedly unite themselves under one “sub-product centre”. The idea is to combine the global as well as China-based operations of these two companies along with bringing their marketing and service divisions closer. One other aspect about this proposed merger which needs to be mentioned is that the teams after joining hands can directly report to Pete Lau. Moreover, it is further said that the two brands will try to use their existing product line-up more efficiently. Even though all of this is just a speculation at this time, no official comments have come out on this matter. India Today Tech has already tried contacting the respective companies on this topic, but they are yet to respond.

Leadership Changes and Internal Restructuring

Merger rumors are currently spreading, which has added to the guesses about the future of OnePlus. The resignation of Robin Liu is one of the biggest pieces of news from OnePlus. He left on March 31, 2026; according to OnePlus, he resigned in accordance with his desire to pursue personal interests. OnePlus also tried to reassure customers that their operations in India were being managed with a local strategy. However, leadership changes frequently lead to questions when they occur in conjunction with other changes like significant organisational restructuring. Also, reports have indicated that there is part of a restructuring plan underway with OnePlus, which ties into the potential merger and/ or operational change. Although OnePlus has said everything is operating normally at this time, the positive internal developments of the last few weeks may indicate something major happening within OnePlus’ operations.

World-wide anxiety: Potential Exit from Europe, Job Downsizing and Lighthouse Launches

OnePlus’s global footprint is continuing to shrink, with new information surfacing that their planned exit from Europe may happen in early April. No formal confirmation has yet been issued; however; speculation around job losses has grown, along with comments from company executives regarding the company “reassessing” its future in the region. The absence of any new OnePlus products being introduced across global markets has also added to this concern. In contrast, Realme, another OnePlus product line, has maintained an active presence in European markets and in other territories, but not in the US, where OnePlus has been a presence for many years. These differences in strategy open up exciting possibilities for each brand to potentially combine strategies and/or operate globally together in the future.

Usual Business or Strategic Move? What Does OnePlus Say?

While speculations have been rife, OnePlus has always been denying all rumors regarding closure or downsizing of operations. Robin Liu, the former CEO of OnePlus India, had previously stated that such rumors were baseless and that business was going to be carried out as usual. Even after Liu stepped down from his position, OnePlus continued to maintain that the situation in India remained stable and that a clear local strategy had been laid down for business. However, there are some factors which point towards something else. To name one, OnePlus recently announced an expansion by 50 percent in the number of centers for after-sales services in India beginning April 2026. What needs to be noted is that the company will be expanding this center network via Oppo’s current service network.

Conclusion

Speculations of the rumored merger between OnePlus and Realme have created some interesting concerns on what the future holds for the two companies. With denials of any big changes from both companies, the events recently seen in each company have shown otherwise. Whatever the intention behind this, the message being conveyed here is that a process of change is taking place. Without any concrete news in place yet, speculations will be inevitable, but this much can be said for sure—the result could be the turning point in their history as brands.
